2019 Toyota Avalon: Deluxe and Delightful

2019 toyota avalon review

SUVs are ascendant right now, but sedans aren’t dead yet. The Toyota Avalon is a bid to hold onto market share by combining the usual strengths of new Toyota cars (dependability, high resale value) with a new design that blurs the line between consumer and luxury motoring. It’s been a long wait, but it’s finally available to the Los Angeles customers served by Keyes Toyota.

2019 Toyota Avalon Details

Model details

  • 3.5L V6 engine
  • 301 horsepower, 267 lb-ft torque
  • Eight-speed automatic transmission
  • FWD drivetrain
  • EPA fuel economy: 26 MPG (combined)

All-new for this year, the 2019 Toyota Avalon is redesigned from tip to tail. It’s better-proportioned than before, with a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs, and offers plenty of style to match the substance we’ve always expected from Toyota sedans.

The new Toyota Avalon is available in XLE, XSE, Touring, and Limited trims. Each shares the same powertrain and driveline, but each successive trim adds more features to the trims below it ’til you get to the fully-loaded Limited trim.

Also worthy of note: the 2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid, which takes full advantage of a 215 net horsepower hybrid powertrain and delivers 43 city and 44 highway miles per gallon.

2019 Toyota Avalon Safety and Special Features*

NHTSA and IIHS ratings for the 2019 Toyota Avalon are still pending as we write this. However, the car includes three key safety suites: the Toyota STAR safety system, Toyota Safety Sense, and the subscription-based Toyota Safety Connect®. As such, we’re confident saying you’re plenty safe behind the wheel (or in any of the other four seats).

As mentioned, different trims offer different features. The Active Noise Cancellation and Engine Sound Enhancement exclusive to the Touring trim make it worth a closer look, while the addition of Apple CarPlay™ and Amazon Alexa compatibility is particularly welcome across all trims.

Safety/Special Features*

  • 14-speaker JBL audio system
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Amazon Alexa connectivity
  • Toyota Safety Connect
  • Toyota STAR safety suite
  • Toyota Safety Sense Plus (TSS-P)
