2019 Toyota Highlander: Anything but Boring

2019 toyota highlander

Seems like every SUV on the road looks and performs like practically every other SUV. So when an exception rolls along, people take notice. It’s why the 2019 Toyota Highlander is so popular among the Los Angeles area drivers served by Keyes Toyota. Fun, punchy, and versatile, it’s an antidote to the carbon-copy crossovers we’ve seen too much of.

2019 Toyota Highlander Details

Model details

  • Engines:
    185 hp four-cylinder
    295 hp V6
  • Transmission:
    Eight-speed automatic

The 2019 Toyota Highlander mostly holds steady after a 2017 redesign. Like its fraternal twin, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, it adds revised lights, but it’s otherwise the same SUV we’ve grown used to in recent years.

That’s not a bad thing, especially given a varied choice of trims (the gas-powered LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, and Limited, and the hybrid LE, XLE and Limited). Front-wheel drive is standard on the petrol model, with all-wheel drive optional (it’s standard on the hybrid, much like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid).

If you’re looking for a new Toyota SUV with third-row seating, this is it. In fact, you get a choice of two different second-row configurations, and can further opt for heated front seats, leather, and keyless start/entry; your Toyota dealer serving Los Angeles will help you choose further among options and trims.

2019 Toyota Highlander Safety and Special Features

We’re still waiting on IIHS data for this year’s model, but the NHTSA gives the Toyota Highlander a five-star safety rating. Robust construction helps, but the Toyota STAR and Toyota Safety Sense safety systems — which are standard equipment — play their part as well.

The Toyota Entune infotainment system is capable enough — especially on upper trims — that you won’t miss Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. One option that we suggest is the all-wheel drive. This is one SUV that has the ride height and power to tackle rough terrain, and it’d be a shame not to take advantage.

Special Features

  • Active cruise control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Steering assist
  • Traction control
  • Vehicle stability control
